Frequently Asked Questions

What is WHOIS and RDAP?
WHOIS is a query and response protocol used for querying databases that store the registered users or assignees of an Internet resource, such as a domain name. RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern successor to WHOIS, providing structured JSON responses, better internationalization, and enhanced security.
Why are some domain owner details hidden?
Due to privacy laws like GDPR and privacy protection services offered by registrars, personal contact information (name, email, phone number) of the domain registrant is often redacted or replaced with proxy contact details.
Is my domain lookup query logged?
No. DevFlow does not store, log, or track the domains you search for. The queries are sent directly from our server to the authoritative RDAP server and the results are returned to your browser.
Is this WHOIS lookup free to use?
Yes, the WHOIS lookup is completely free with no account or sign-up required. You can run unlimited domain lookups — there are no hidden charges or usage quotas.
Why does the WHOIS lookup run on a server instead of in my browser?
Browsers cannot query RDAP endpoints directly due to CORS restrictions, so the lookup is performed on the DevFlow server to reach the authoritative registries. This is the only query a server sees — the domain you searched. It is not stored, tracked, or associated with your profile.
